The first Charters Towers Swap Meet was held in June 1978 at the Cycle Track (where the Defiance Mill Park is located now) before moving to the Showgrounds and then on to the H.M. Clarke Sale Yards.

It has evolved into the Charters Towers Motor Show & Swap Meet and has relocated from the Sale Yards to the Charters Towers Showgrounds and has enjoyed continuous success.
