2024 MOTOR SHOW
The 45th Annual Motor Show and Swap Meet heard early in 2024 that Rodney and Judith Menso from the Burdekin were going to bring the restored "HQFORU" to the Motor Show this year the organisers were excited to see the return of this STREET MACHINE to the show circuit.
Through the connections of Todd Martin of Muscle Car Events - Australia, we were able to secure the SPECIAL GUEST Services of Mr Kevin "KB" "Big Rev Kev "Bartlett who was instrumental as project manager of this vehicle in the original STREET MACHINE giveaway decades ago!!
Mr Bartlett travelled all the way from Maleny in South Queensland to attend the show and be reunited in HQFORU as the leader of the SATURDAY SUPERCRUISE through Charters Towers Streets.
A different event this year was the Saturday Night dinner with KB regaling us with his stories of his years of racing many and varied vehicles.
Held at the Civic Club, the 55 attendees enjoyed a lovely 2-course meal (the broccoli salad and apple crumble come highly recommended) in the historic walls of the club,
The Observation Rally this year saw a few changes where passengers had to exit the vehicles to get answers to some questions, as well as picking up a lucky ticket for the draw at the presentations, After last year's comments to "make it harder", the participants enjoyed the run - even if some thought it may have been too hard!
The hotly contested Go To Whoa saw a few more too-short / too-long results than usual, making the nerves a bit shorter at the final,
As has been the last few years, the Swap Sites were almost completely sold and lots of great bargains were to be had in Sideshow Alley at the Showgrounds. A big thanks to the Swap Site Coordinator Corin and his team of helpers for the smooth running of the Swap Site - especially since the line up to get in to set up on Friday reached almost the entire length of the Showgrounds!
With the weather a bit cooler than the last few years, but the sun shining brightly and the return of kids entertainment....this time FREE.... it was a lovely weekend for all involved.
Here are the results for the trophies with Judith Menso taking out both the top prizes!
